LEAC {Lions Emergency Accommodation Centre}. This continues to be one of the busiest projects of Lions throughout Q4 and Q3. We have absolutely dedicated staff who attend to an ever growing need of emergency accommodation for families from far away areas of central & North Queensland, NSW & even Victoria. Although centered at Nambour on the Central Coast, it is certainly not a local project but one used by neighbours of all communities within Australia. The centre consisting of 7 homes & 14 two & three bedroom units, maintains an almost 100% occupancy rating. This centre is contactable for clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We thank all the Clubs who continue to assist with donations for the ongoing work & invite other Clubs along with all Members to become familiar with just exactly how important this project is to the clients in need. Both the committee & the staff have had some success with grant applications & we will continue to assist in this area where funds are used to refurbish & improve standards for all clients. As funding for "The Better Start Program" has now ceased we encourage continued Lions assistance to ensure the continuation of a highly recognised & successful program that has proved invaluable to clients over the last 10 years.
CAMP DUCKADANG: District Chairman Don Knopke reports all is going well at Duckadang with good forward bookings. As usual there is needed upkeep and Rod asks that Clubs remember Duckadang in their Disbursements where possible. Camp Duckadang is looking a picture, there has been plenty of refurbishment happening and palnning for even more to be done. Zonies please encourage your Clubs to come along to the most amazing country setting & whilst enjoying the great fellowship of other Lions participate in doing what we do best, the hands on activities. Contact me for more details on the working bees. As camp Duckadang is looking better all the time we must not become complacement as it does require ongoing continual work to keep it functional & in a condition that makes the clients want to return. This requires an ongoing committment from all our Clubs & hence we ask that Clubs remember Duckadang in their gifting of donations, this camp remains one of the Districts greatest assets after our Membership. It appears that the camp has turned a small profit from its trading which is a welcome relief & it is envisaged that this shoud continue.
